Kathy “The Owner” first came into gardening when she set out to provide her family with fresh and healthy home grown vegetables. Starting a few plants from seed for personal use quickly grew to starting a few hundred plants from seed for friends which grew to starting a few thousand plants from seed for sale at markets. In the meantime, the perennial gardens around the farm expanded under Kathy’s direction, and so did her practical knowledge of how to grow in our tough and unforgiving climate and soil.
Sarah “The Daughter” grew up playing in the dirt at Grange Hollow and feels most at home when she’s got it all over her hands. An enthusiastic gardener with the winter hobby of browsing through seed catalogues, she ensures that we carry a blend of exciting new plants and trusty old favorites. If there’s a strange cabbage, tomato, or eggplant out there, she’ll try growing it!
Brian “The Daughter’s Boyfriend” was born and raised in big cities but has been quick to adapt to life in the country and the giant vegetable garden that accompanies it. He comes by his love of vegetable plants honestly by way of the dinner table, and enjoys the small often overlooked things in gardens. He is most often found at the markets carrying heavy things around for Sarah or crawling through the dirt photographing flowers, insects, or frogs.
May “The Big Black Thing That’s Underfoot” was employed as the stuffed animal caretaker, which she carried around and showed off to visitors. Her hobbies included eating twitch grass, collecting mud on her fur, sleeping in the perennial beds to pack down the mulch, and trying (unsuccessfully) to eat honeybees. Rest in Peace May (2006-2022)
